Natural Indicators of Incoming Storms
Fog
Fog in the morning is nothing more than damp air being condensed by the cold air at night. It burns off with the heat of the morning. But, fog at night or in the late afternoon is the result of cold rain or snow falling through the warm air, where it condenses; this indicates a coming storm.
Animal Sounds
Crows, woodpeckers, and blue jays are typically very noisy before a storm. This is in contrast to insects who stop making noise.
Crickets
They can also tell you the temperature. Count the number of chirps per minute, then subtract by 40, divide by 4, and add 50 for the approximate temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.
